Jaime Murray is a British actress who I call the "Harbinger of Gay." If she had a house in the Game of Thrones' universe, its motto would be "Gay is coming."
She is hugely supportive of the GLBT community and may be the "gayest straight woman" alive, a title which she would gladly accept. Incredibly witty and also implausibly sexy, she is a woman that every man and woman with a pulse cannot help, but be charmed by. She is exceedingly playful and interactive with her fans, whom she refers to as her "fangirls." Warning: she can be delightfully sassy and not always PG/PG-13, so if you lack a sense of humor or are easily offended by non-biblical discussions, well, you shouldn't be on this site in the first place.

If you're on Twitter, you should be following her. If you own a television or computer
, you should be watching her. Believe me, you will be greatly rewarded for doing so.

Quotes
  • "We're all a little bit gay." - Jaime Murray's Twitter - 4/21/11 at 8:44 a.m.

  • "They're fucking funny and smart and sassy so I kind of really enjoy the relationship I have with them on Twitter, and I find them inspiring too. I think that whenever you make a choice which isn't easy in life and you decide, 'I'm going to make the choice to follow my heart, however difficult that might be in my life,' and you follow through - I think there's a certain strength of character, a depth of emotional awareness." - Jaime Murray on her lesbian fans in a January 11, 2013 interview with AfterEllen

  • "It’s an under-represented demographic and it’s a really loyal fan base and it’s really nice to play those roles without making a big deal about it or making too much comment, because the more we normalise it the better. You’re not defined by your sexuality but by what you do." - Jaime Murray on her lesbian fan base in an April 12, 2013 interview with Metro

  • "I am so sick of playing a woman who is pitted against another woman. I'm so sick of playing the bitchy woman who is [in] competition with another woman. I am much more interested in showing the bond between women, the sisterhood of women." - Jaime Murray in an April 22, 2013 interview with AfterEllen

  • "Always be yourself, unless you can be a unicorn. Then, always be a unicorn." - Jaime Murray in a June 27, 2013 interview with Hollywood Journal

Gay Résumé

Jaime Murray may have the gayest résumé currently in existence. It reads like a rainbow dream, and understandably, it has resulted in her acquiring a massive lesbian fan base, which she recognizes and wholeheartedly welcomes. Apparently, even early into her career, Murray was being cast as a bisexual/lesbian character, before it was "cool" to play gay/lesbian. Fortunately for us, she has never shied away from these roles due to the characters' sexual orientations. Instead, she has taken them on with great respect and awareness of the community that her characters are representing, and her characters' identities have never revolved around the gender they happen to be attracted to. This also has resulted in her being a pro at deftly handling the highly prevalent and constantly recurring issue that all actresses playing gay have to confront time and time again: bullshit interviewers who hyperfocus on a bisexual/lesbian character's sexual orientation, sexualizing the character's identity and trying to reduce the role/storyline into some salacious heterosexual male fantasy.

Jaime Murray has played six and a half GLBT-related roles thus far (that I am aware of):

  • Melanie in The Bill - a lesbian hostess at a casino that gets caught up in a drug ring. She becomes briefly involved with an undercover cop, Gemma Osbourne (played by Jane Danson), who becomes torn between helping Melanie and doing her job. (Some scenes are available on Youtube here)

  • Stacie Monroe in Hustle - a con artist who takes part in long cons with a team of other con artists. In episode 3.01: Price for Fame, Stacie pretends to be a lesbian noise abatement officer when she visits a sound studio. An employee asks her out, but she tells him, "I'm ever so sorry. I'm gay." He responds, "Right, yeah, what a waste." She tells him, "I doubt my partner would agree." Being awful, he asks, "I don't supposed you and her would..." and she cuts him off, "Er, no, please. Don't say it." (This scene is available here on Youtube at 5:38)

  • H.G. Wells in Warehouse 13 - the real H.G. Wells (science fiction author), who lives in present times as a nemesis/agent/"normal person" in relation to a special warehouse in the United States, which collects and protects supernatural artifacts that inhabit the world. Even though H.G. Wells has only been a recurring character on Warehouse 13, outside of her role as Stahma Tarr in Defiance, Murray's role as H.G. Wells is the most substantial, as her character receives considerable screen time and an ongoing storyline, compared to the other referenced roles. In Warehouse 13, H.G. Wells' relationship with Myka Bering (Joanne Kelly) is the source of the immensely angsty subtext/main text ship of Bering and Wells. Warehouse 13 aired its fifth and final season in 2014.

  • Gaia on Spartacus: Gods of the Arena - an ambitious and manipulative woman living in ancient Rome, whose long-standing friendship with Lucretia (played by none other than Xena herself, Lucy Lawless) turns sexual at times, while they try to climb to the top. (Available on Starz) (features some explicit sex scenes (like whoa) between Gaia/Lucretia - there's a few floating around on our friend, the Internet) For some NSFW screencaps and gif sets of the more adult material, here is a Tumblr link. Seriously, click with caution. It always makes my eyes bulge out of my head.

  • Olivia Charles in Ringer - a lesbian businesswoman who ends up sleeping with her business partner's ex-wife (Some scenes are available here)

  • Stahma Tarr in Defiance - a devoted wife and mother, who also happens to be Castithan (read: alien), living in the (not too distant) future St. Louis after a galactic, inter-species war has ended. As she comes from a Castithan culture, which is class-based and male-dominated, Stahma Tarr is submissive to her husband and focused on his and their son's happiness, often times working behind the scenes to make her family's ambitions a reality. In spite of this deeply entrenched duty to her family, Stahma becomes involved with Kenya Rosewater (played by Jenny Schecter/Mia Kirshner), who runs the local bar and brothel. Defiance currently airs on Syfy.

  • Gerri Dandridge in Fright Night 2: New Blood - a vampire seeking to bathe in the blood of a "new moon virgin." Dandridge's bloodlust is not limited just to one gender, and she is seen getting it on with a redhead during the film. Gifs of Murray in the film (including the lady-lady action) are posted here on this Tumblr.
