Deep breaths, people. It's time for goodbyes, or as I like to call it, the end of Myka and H.G.'s terrible, horrible, no good, very bad date. H.G. walks onto the driveway where Myka and her driver Pete are waiting outside for her.
Myka: "Everybody seems okay?"
H.G.: "Well, Christina 2.0's safe. That's the main thing. As for Beard and myself...who knows?"
I do. I know that's never going to last. That's what I know, in case you were wondering.
Myka does not love H.G.'s mention of Beard and looks down to digest it, forcing a small smile on her face. Pete, who has been begging to be free from the lesbian day of no fun, says a gracious goodbye and goes to sit in the driver's seat of the car, which is, you know, about two feet from where Myka and H.G. are standing. Awkward turtle. This guy deserves unlimited croissants and comic books for his tour of duty today. He learned today a universal truth: shipping Bering and Wells ain't easy.

Precious, precious Myka begins the awkward end of the date dance, and after a long sigh, she asks hesitantly, "So, is this goodbye?"
H.G.: "Well, I would assume not."
Myka gives her a nervous laugh and stares at her like she's staring at all the stars in the universe. Already, her eyes are sparkling with tears.

Myka gives her a nervous laugh and stares at her like she's staring at all the stars in the universe. Already, her eyes are sparkling with tears.
Myka looks like she's about to say something and then stops herself. H.G. does the same thing. Their relationship is laden with an overabundance of things they have never said out loud to each other. Signaling the end of all mental health and emotional stability, the song "Atlantis" by Ellie Goulding (see on the next page) starts up in the background. People, look at the lyrics for this song (also on the next page) and it tells you everything you need to know about Bering and Wells in this moment.
Myka, the beautiful, vulnerable soul that she is, finally blurts out, "Fight for him." Her smile is suddenly gone, and she strenuously nods her head, to try and convince H.G. she believes what she's saying. H.G.'s painted-on smile also fades at this comment. Myka continues, "I was wrong when I said that you weren't being true to yourself. Maybe I was just afraid of losing a friend." She says this with a staggered cadence and her words are fraught with pain.
Trying to get everything out, Myka says, with her eyes brimming with tears, "But caring for someone...you're obviously very good at it. So make this...make this your home." Before she says, "make this your home," she looks off in the distance, as she cannot look at H.G. while she says it.
Myka didn't believe those words and deep down, H.G. didn't believe a word of it either. She barely choked them out as it was. If you're wishing your friend well, you're not sobbing and your voice is not wavering. H.G., in response to Myka's "well wishes," says "thank you" and plasters the smile she has bore on her face the entire episode. Myka forces herself to smile in response.
H.G. reaches out, grabbing on to Myka, and says, "And you will never lose this friend." With tears running down her face, Myka sobs out a "good," letting out a devastatingly painful laugh, and it's so clear that this moment is killing Myka.
As Myka is at her limit, she pulls H.G. into a hug, and for once, we start to see H.G. having a real reaction.
