Bering and Wells Episode 3.01: The New Guy

After the traumatic ending of Season 2, Season 3 opens up with a Myka-less Warehouse 13. The title of the episode "The New Guy" says it all: there's a new agent stepping in due to Myka's absence. I guess it could have also been called "The New Gay," as the newbie is none other than big gay Steve Jinks ("Jinksy"). Yay, another homo on the show. Now to find the lady homo.

"Going through a rough breakup" Myka
A Pete without a Myka is a sad Pete indeed. When the new team of Pete and Jinksy are struggling with a mission, Pete stops by "Bering and Sons" to check in on an old friend. Myka, looking painfully adorable, seems surprised, but attempts to help the new team, particularly when the artifact is William Shakespeare-related, a specialty of Myka's.

Not unexpectedly, Myka eventually gets pulled into participating in the mission, ending up saving Jinksy's life. Her relationship with Pete is understandably rocky as he's still very bitter about her departure. Pete is, what you call, "making this about himself," instead of trying to understand what Myka has been through and is still going through.

It's good to be in a vest again
Regardless, I am a happy camper because Myka's temporary rejoining of the team allows us to see Myka doing what she does best: being awesome and doing it in a really gay way. She appears in a vest and a tie, hair slicked back, posing as a waitress/waiter at an event. Oh Myka, welcome back. She, of course, ends up saving the day, and you can tell she really enjoyed being back in the thick of things with the Warehouse crew.

Still, after the mission is over, she waves goodbye to Pete and returns home and everyone remains sad. Throughout the episode, we find out that everyone has tried to get Myka back to the Warehouse, but to no avail. Myka's gone. Or is she?

Awkward
Mrs. Frederic, proving she is the smartest of them all, appears in Bering and Sons, thanking Myka for a job well done on the previous mission. Myka graciously accepts her thanks, but before she leaves, Mrs. Frederic reveals, "There's someone I want you to speak with." She steps back and there in Bering and Sons stands H.G. Wells, looking a bit drab (but still fabulous!) in the outfit we last saw her escorted away in during episode 2.12.

H.G. softly says, "Hello Myka."

Visibly shaken, Myka asks Mrs. Frederic, "What...whe..why? Mrs. Frederic, why would you bring her here?"

H.G. appears somewhat shamed by Myka's reaction to her and it appears the bravado-filled H.G. that we once knew is no longer. Mrs. Frederic promises, "She can't hurt you, Myka. She can't hurt anyone. Trust me. I'll leave you two alone." You sly dog, you, Mrs. F.

God, I'm so angry I could just make out with her for hours!
The two of them stand in awkward silence for a few moments, when H.G. decides to finally step forward to say what she came to say: "Myka, you hate me for what I did. You hate the Warehouse for what it did to you."

"No, no, I don't," cuts in Myka. The wound is still too fresh and Myka's walls are up in full force.

H.G.: "We became friends because we're alike in many ways."

Myka, allowing H.G. nothing, responds, "Except I, I didn't want to destroy the world and kill everybody in it." She's got ya there, H.G.

Gah, I forgive you H.G.! Don't look at me that way!
H.G. continues, "I'm not proud of what happened, but that it drove you away from the Warehouse..." The end of this sentence barely makes it out of H.G.'s throat and the pained look on her face shows a sincere sadness on H.G.'s part about what she has caused Myka to go through. Even Myka has no snappy comeback to this and she has to look away.

H.G.: "A hundred years ago, I went into the bronzer filled with hate. It grew inside me like a cancer. All I thought about was what I lost, what the Warehouse had taken from me, turned me into. Be careful, Myka. Hate so easily turns into fear. Don't walk away from your truth." She's like a sexy Confucious, doling out elegantly phrased wisdom.

Myka: "That's why you're here?"

H.G.: "I haven't actually come here."

In a very sensuous manner, Myka swipes her hand through H.G.'s body a couple times, with her arm passing right through her.

Right for the boob. Well done, Myka

Myka: Even your hologram is pretty
Anger already forgotten, Myka asks H.G., "So what? You're some sort of holographic projection? Or..." Good guess Myka! I'd have guessed ghost. Or something other than "holographic projection."

"I'm being held. I don't know where or how," admits H.G., somewhat embarrassed. She goes on, though, to say, "They can, it seems, transport my consciousness. Wish I'd thought of that," in a very H.G.-like manner.

Myka allows a small smile to slip out at this comment. She will always be the first to forgive H.G., whether she likes it or not.

H.G., returning to a serious look, turns the conversation back to its intended purpose, imploring Myka, "Please think about what I've said." Her image suddenly disintegrates back into a magic 8-ball type of apparatus in Mrs. Frederic's hands, leaving Myka to gasp in reaction to H.G.'s sudden absence. Mrs. Frederic looks directly at Myka in a very knowing fashion. Mission accomplished, Mrs. F. High five! Or not.

The lesbian whisperer
Of course, what do we see post-Bering and Wells conversation: Myka returning to the Warehouse. So many feelings! Claudia sums it up perfectly when she sees Myka: "Oh my God. Squeal of delight." We love you Claud. We love everyone. We've got Myka back. We've got a new gay. H.G. is, at least, not bronzed and somewhat available. Awesome start to Season 3.
