A post on Myka Bering in the final season is posted here: Myka Bering and the Defining Moment

Hello everyone, as the final episode has aired and the run of Warehouse 13 is now over, I will no longer be updating this page. Many thanks to all of those who contributed their thoughts, information, screenshots, etc. Thanks for coming along for the ride. FYI - I'll keep this page up as is. It's also a lovely snapshot of my hopeful innocence and great ability to live in denial apparently. I'll reiterate what I've said before: Sighfy. Now, on to enjoy our fandom doing what it does best - continuing the legacy of Warehouse 13 and Bering and Wells into a glorious future.

What We Know:

About Season 5:

  • Begins in the U.S. on April 14, 2014 at 9 p.m. EST (Source) and April 22, 2014 at 9 p.m. (Source)
  • Episode 5.01 will be called "Endless Terror" (oh, that sounds fun) and will visit Warehouse 9, Warehouse 13, and a futuristic Warehouse. The episode will begin where season 5 ended - with Claudia and Paracelsus going at it over the Warehouse, while everyone else remains outside of the force field. "Paracelsus' ultimate vision is a society based solely on science. And if that science is achieved through Mengele-like human experimentation, specifically experimentation of combining artifacts, well, the end justifies the means. And Paracelsus definitely has the means, as he manipulates certain artifacts in the Warehouse into a configuration that will allow him to change the future -- starting in the past." This leaves Myka, Pete, Steve, and Artie to "rewrite history and put the present back to its past state." Apparently, the events that take place in 5.01: Endless Terror "allow for the return of an even deadlier enemy from the agents' past!" (Source 1) (Source 2) (Source 3) My guess as to the "even deadlier enemy from the agents' past - Regent Valda (played by Mark Sheppard). An article came out last year stating that Regent Valda will be in all six of the final episodes. (Source) This fact combined with Jack Kenny's statement that the "big bad" in the last season is a "surprising character [they']re bringing back" makes me think it almost has to be Valda.
  • Episode 5.02 will be called "Secret Services" and air April 21, 2014 in the U.S.
  • Episode 5.03 will be called "A Faire to Remember" and air April 28, 2014 in the U.S. In this episode, Pete and Steve will be paired up to investigate a ping at Renaissance Fair, while Myka joins up with Claudia to help her try and get her sister back. Apparently, we will see "Myka's internalized turmoil unleashed" and her character will show "a whole new side in this episode."  (Source 1) (Source 2)
  • Episode 5.04 will be called "Savage Seduction." (Source)
  • There's an episode where "Pete and Myka have fallen into a telenovella and they're speaking Spanish." (Source)
  • There's an episode that takes place at a Renaissance fair, while another story features "body doubling." (Source)
  • There's an episode where somebody's trying to move the Warehouse to China. (Source)
  • Episode 5.05 will be called "Cangku Shisi" and will involve bad guy Regent Valda trying to move the Warehouse to China, using Claudia's sister Claire in the process. Pete, Myka, and Claudia will track Claire, while Artie and Jinks deal with a weaponized Warehouse. Also, apparently Pete will avoid being alone with Myka during the episode because...well, you know...Pyka. (Source)
  • Episode 5.06 (series finale) features "five different interweaving stories including a time travel tale set in the 1940s, a ninja fight with housewives and a musical number where “armies of dancing sequined chorus girls take over the Warehouse.” (Source) I assume the series finale will air in the U.S. on May 19, 2014 as the season 5 DVD is scheduled to be on sale on May 20, 2014. Presuming the network is not going to release the episode on DVD before the finale airs, that means that the show will run on a tight schedule of airing every single Monday between April 14, 2014 and May 19, 2014 to hit that final deadline.

About Myka:
  • Myka will survive her battle with cancer. They're not going to end the show recovering from or dealing with the death of a beloved character. Apparently, the tumor will turn out to be benign. The six episode final season is going to force them to resolve that storyline quickly (I presume similarly to the Warehouse destruction at the end of season 3 and the "sweating sickness" crisis that appeared in 4.10). By the end of 5.01, I would bet that storyline is behind us. Dana Fairbanks, Myka is not - praise the gods.
  • Eddie McClintock stated in a January 16, 2014 tweet that the last shot of the last scene of the show will look something like this:
Picture
via Eddie McClintock's Tweet on August 23, 2013 at 2:36 P.M.

  • Based solely on this picture, it doesn't look like Myka is saying goodbye or on her way out of the Warehouse, but looks may be deceiving.
  • Joanne Kelly feels "so conflicted" about the show's end. Joanne Kelly stated that she feels conflicted about the show's end, though it is unclear if she means about her character's ending or the show's ending in general. In another interview, when specifically asked about whether she is happy with her character's resolution, she seems conflicted as well about what to say, just responding "it's weird," but what that refers to could be anything (e.g., the question, her ending).
  • In episode 5.03: A Faire to Remember, we will see "Myka's internalized turmoil unleashed" and her character will show "a whole new side in this episode." (Source)

About H.G. Wells:
  • H.G. Wells will be back, in some way, for the final season. Consistent with Jaime Murray's June 3, 2013 tweets of hope, including this one, we will see the return of H.G. Wells. Jack Kenny confirmed this in two July 3, 2013 interviews (1st interview, 2nd interview).
  • "We barely get to see H.G." in season 5. According to Jack Kenny, due to Jaime Murray's full-time role on Defiance, as well as his desire to use the final six episodes to focus primarily on the show's "regulars," H.G.'s appearance in season 5 may be very small. She will reappear in flashbacks to Warehouse 12 and will reunite with the team "briefly" for another artifact hunt. (July 24, 2013 interview with Jack Kenny) Below is a season 5 preview that shows H.G. working on a case in present times - not the Warehouse 12 days.
  • H.G. will appear in one of the final two episodes (my guess is the absolute last) of the series. At San Diego Comic Con 2013, the cast said they were in the middle of shooting episode 3 of the final 6. Simultaneously, Jack Kenny said they were still trying to schedule in Jaime Murray, so that means her appearance is slated for one of the back three. When Warehouse 13 was shooting its final episode, Jaime Murray was on set, but that does not necessarily mean her scenes will be in the final episode, as sometimes they do not shoot in chronological order, particularly for guest stars. As of episode 5.04, H.G. has yet to appear and is not in the 5.05 preview. I can't imagine Syfy/Warehouse 13 won't be pimpin' the crap out of her appearance as they always do, so my guess is she is in the finale - 5.06. Ooooh, boy.
  • H.G. Wells may have left Nate and is now dating another woman. Tumblr user neuralhandshake.tumblr.com who met Jaime Murray at C2E2 was told that H.G. was no longer with Nate and that Jaime tossed in a line referencing another woman she is seeing (Source)

About Bering and Wells:
  • Bering and Wells "will not be walking off hand in hand into the sunset." As uttered by the show creator himself, Myka and H.G. will not be officially a couple when the show closes.
  • Myka will be dealing with H.G.'s time machine again. Per the season 5 preview released by Syfy (see below), we see Myka yanking on H.G.'s time machine. This time, it looks like she's not the one taking a ride on it, though. Credit to Twitter user @Bering_Wells for the catch!
  • There will be no Bering and Wells scenes at all in the final season. This comes from Tumblr user neuralhandshake.tumblr.com who met Jaime Murray at C2E2 and was told there would be no scenes between H.G. and Myka in the final season of Warehouse 13. (Source)

About the prospects of Pyka:
  • It's official: Pyka - in the romantic sense - will be occurring. According to HuffPost TV, under an article heading "Love Connection" - "In the final block of episodes, there's no holding back. Pete and Myka finally acknowledge their feelings for one another." It can't get more explicit than that and I fear my powers of denial are not enough to fight this statement off, so unless this article is just plain wrong - romantic Pyka shall be. (Source) That being said, there are still those who believe that Pyka shall not be endgame, that the show will have them admit their feelings, but for whatever reason, they will decide not to pursue a relationship. If this is true, I find Warehouse 13's decision even more confusing: this will mean they intentionally have spent the limited season 5 storyline time to build expectations for Pyka, just to say "Gotcha" at the end. This would be cruel to Pyka fans and would not undo the damage the show had amassed with its anti-Pyka viewers. Your guess is as good as mine at this point.
  • Dr. Kelly Hernandez (Paula Garces) will be returning. Pete's ex-girlfriend and the person he once believed was "the one" for him is slated to appear in the final season. We have not seen her since Episode 2.12: Buried when she ended things with Pete after an artifact almost made her kill him. I liked Kelly a lot, so this is good news. It will be interesting to see how and why she returns. Obviously, this could have some affect on the chances of Pyka. (July 3, 2013 Interview)
  • Pete and Myka's relationship will "develop" in season 5 and something will happen that will be "very interesting between the two of them." According to Joanne Kelly, who tried to speak very carefully without giving anything away, Pete and Myka's relationship will continue to change, and just as they had more serious moments towards the end of season 4, they will have some more scenes in that tone in the final season. What this means is unknown, but it certainly leaves the door open for Pyka. (July 27, 2013 Interview)
  • Pyka (in some way, shape, or form) will happen in season 5. McClintock has confirmed that Pyka will exist in some form in season 5. That doesn't really mean anything at this point. Interestingly, on Aug. 24, 2013, while Warehouse was shooting its last episode ever, Eddie McClintock tweeted a link titled "How it Would Play Out if Warehouse 13's Pete and Myka Hooked Up," which contained an interview of he and Jack Kenny discussing the possibility of Pyka. In that article, McClintock expresses his hope that Pyka does not become romantic. Yet, it also is not ruled out entirely either. That article was published in April of 2013, so why McClintock tweeted it again four months later while Warehouse 13 was shooting its final episode remains to be seen. McClintock has promised Pyka again in another interview, with Allison Scagliotti teasing it as well, but it seems (to me) that this may be a red herring, as I would think if the show finally tried to take the plunge and make Pyka romantic, they would be keeping it under wraps and also trying to make it appear as a serious relationship, which the cast has done the exact opposite of since the final six episodes have been in production. It's still up in the air. Then again, it could be wishful thinking on my part.
  • The video Warehouse 13 Season 5: Moments Yet to Come is worrisome. Besides giving us a heart-stopping view of 19th century H.G. in glasses, the last scene of this video from Syfy (below) shows Myka and Pete at the end of a conversation that appears potentially not good for Bering and Wells. In it, Pete is smiling and Myka hits him (while also smiling), warning him: "Don't! Okay? We always put the Warehouse first. I am your partner. I am not your girlfriend." Now, of course, it's out of context, but it's disconcerting that Myka is reminding Pete that "we" will always put the Warehouse first. That seems like something that is said when two co-workers decide to be in a relationship because they remind themselves to act professional and keep their personal and work lives separate.
  • Alternate interpretation of Warehouse 13 Season 5: Moments Yet to Come video. That being said, the lovely Nebia92 has pointed out that this could be a conversation had between the two after Myka finds out what Pete did during 4.20 for her when he thought she was going to die of cancer. This possibility also makes sense in that Pete and Myka are not wearing the same clothes they are in when they kiss (see underneath the video), which are the same clothes they are wearing in the supposed last shot of the show (see above), so it definitely is at a different time. Also, Pete's hair in the finale is a lot scruffier than it is in the promo scene, so it is reasonable to assume that is not even in the same episode. Time will tell.

  • There will be a Pyka kiss that takes place in the finale. At the 2013 Dragoncon, during the Warehouse 13 panel, the show played a gag reel from season 5. At the end of this reel, a video played showing Pete and Myka kissing, or more accurately, Myka kissing Pete. I assume it takes place in the finale because the clothes Pete and Myka are wearing are the same clothes they are wearing above in the supposed final scene of the show that Eddie McClintock tweeted about on August 23, 2013. I find it interesting that you don't really hear any kind of reaction - good or bad - when it airs. From the very short clip, it doesn't appear that Pete or Myka are under the influence of an artifact, and it seems like Myka is the aggressor in the situation, with Pete appearing to be very surprised. As the person who posted the video says, "Don't lose your shit." I agree. Maybe I am completely delusional (it's very likely), but I keep getting a sneaking suspicion that Pyka will not be endgame. Why? Because as I discussed above, it would shock me, just from a network standpoint, that the show, network, actors, etc. would openly spoil something that a good portion of their audience has been wondering "Will they or won't they?" for seasons. It's their final season and from day one, interviewers and viewers alike have peppered the show with questions as to the nature of Pete and Myka's relationship. If the show then allowed for its actors to reveal a major plotline/event a year prior to the scenes even airing, it would almost be unprecedented. Also, it would be financially and strategically stupid. It's all about the anticipation and making the fans question what will happen so they will tune in. Now, I certainly cannot say the network or the powers that be behind Warehouse 13 have always approached or marketed the show properly (*cough Defiance and season 4 * cough), but I would still be stunned if they said, "Go ahead and air a pivotal scene where our two main leads finally get together" at a fan convention event. As you'll notice, no context is given and the clip is brief. Granted, it was played in a montage of very emotional and serious moments, including Myka and H.G.'s goodbye in 4.15: Instinct, but the way the clip was presented in conjunction with the interviews referenced above: something seems amiss. Again, time will tell, but as far as I am concerned, what really will happen with Pyka is "to be determined."
  • Pyka will take place in the series finale, at the very least. When asked what is her favorite episode of Warehouse 13, Allison Scagliotti stated on November 4, 2013, "The series finale. Clip show, tap dancing, Pyka." As stated before, what this means exactly is undetermined.
  • Myka and Pete will be dealing with "a painful realization." A Syfy press release states that in the final season, Pete and Myka must "face together" a "painful realization." I can't imagine that painful realization is that they are in love with each other. If it is, it would be painful, but obviously, I doubt Syfy would describe it as such. (March 31, 2014 article)

Potential Outcomes
At this point, there are a few scenarios that can happen in regards to H.G. Wells/Bering and Wells. Press "Start Prezi" below and click on the forward arrow to run through the potential outcomes that remain. You can also just freely move around the Prezi as well or press autoplay, where it runs with preset intervals.

Reasons for Positivity

Warehouse 13 ends on its own terms
For the first half of 2013, I was just praying the show would not be cancelled. Instead, we were given a blessing, a somewhat mixed blessing, but still a blessing. If Warehouse 13 was not granted another season, Bering and Wells would have ended with 4.15: Instinct (life-scarring); Myka's life would be eternally hanging in limbo (also, life-scarring); and H.G. Wells goes out as a highly diluted version of herself, living in Boone, Wisconsin (just sad). The final season allows the show to reveal the endgame it has been planning for all of the characters since the show's inception, though certainly not on the timeline the show wanted to do it. Regardless, a shot at something great is better than no shot at all, and we've got a shot.

H.G. Wells is returning
After episode 4.15: Instinct, basic foundational questions regarding H.G., Myka, and Bering and Wells in general, were suddenly being asked: Who is H.G.? Is she really happy? How does Myka really feel about this? All we could hope for is that H.G. would return to shed some light onto the true meaning of 4.15: Instinct. We got it. Her return guarantees nothing - be it clarification or otherwise, but it means there's a chance that we could end up in a better place than we were at the end of 4.15: Instinct. H.G.'s return could allow for: 1) confirmation of the Bering and Wells fandom's interpretation of 4.15: Instinct; 2) the return of H.G. to her true self (or what we perceive it to be); and 3) vindication of Myka's actions and statements in 4.15: instinct. Of course, it could always bring more pain, but as H.G. says in 2.10: Where and When, "hoping not."

Also, H.G.'s return was not a foregone conclusion - not at all. At the end of the day, Warehouse 13 is about Pete, Myka, Artie, Claudia, and Steve. The show has basically five episodes to wrap up an entire series (I'm presuming the first episode of season 5 will still be dealing primarily with resolving the fallout of the season 4 finale). That is a ridiculously small amount of time to try and adequately address and handle just the primary cast's stories. Guest stars are correctly not a given or a priority because it's not their story. Jack Kenny mentioned that many well-liked recurring characters, such as Regent Jane Lattimer (Kate Mulgrew), were not able to be squeezed in to the final season. The fact that we get Jaime Murray to return as H.G. Wells, when she is a full-time cast member of another show, is something for which I am incredibly grateful. The capacity and manner she returns in? Jack Kenny said in an interview that we'll "barely see" her in season 5 - in a flashback to Warehouse 12 and in present times as she assists on an artifact hunt "briefly." Le sigh.

I told you I'd be back
The Hope
To me, best case scenario is:
  • H.G. finding peace and acceptance of her true self
  • Myka leaves by her own choice, genuinely happy (not dead, crazy, or evil), or stays on because she is genuinely happy at the Warehouse
  • Some acknowledgment of the unique relationship and feelings that Bering and Wells bear for one another
Do I think this is a legitimate possibility? Absolutely.

Conclusion
I realized I have periodically fallen into the somewhat hypocritical and ultimately bullshit trap of making my happiness/sadness/anger with Warehouse 13 rely on the status of Bering and Wells. That's unfair and also contradicts a lot of what I believe and love about Warehouse 13. Warehouse 13 (through Jack Kenny, Eddie McClintock, and Joanne Kelly) has repeatedly stated that the show is different than most because it is not about romantic relationships, but instead about the makeshift family that the team forms and other important issues, such as life and death, grief and happiness, and just personal growth. I love that the show is unique in that regard and also highly disagree that any character, male or female, needs a romantic relationship to be deemed "happy." Expanding on that proposition, I have said, and still do say, that I will be forever pissed if Pete and Myka (Pyka) become romantically involved; not because it blocks Bering and Wells, but because it rings false to me - inconsistent with Myka, inconsistent with Pete, and inconsistent with the show.

At the same time, I have then made my happiness/unhappiness with Warehouse 13 dependent upon whether Myka would eventually become involved with H.G. romantically. Do I think that Bering and Wells is consistent with Myka Bering's character? Yes, but that also means I am basing my satisfaction with Myka's storyline upon a romantic relationship, instead of just on her, who she is. Joanne Kelly has always stated that she enjoyed that her character was not defined by a relationship to another character - be it as a mother, a girlfriend, a wife, a sister, etc. I agree and and her character, Myka Bering, as an individual, should be analyzed under her own scope. In the same token, so should H.G. Wells. Their paths are different, even if their paths converge.

Since season 1 of Warehouse 13, it's been pretty obvious that Myka Bering's happy ending was walking out of the Warehouse alive, not evil, not crazy, and by her own choosing. She came in a very closed-off, isolated character, and has evolved into a wonderfully caring, more open human being, capable of fun, close relationships of any type (e.g., familial, romantic, etc.).

Picture
From 1.01: Pilot
Picture
From 3.02: Trials
H.G. Wells' character has battled one extreme to another. At one point, she allowed her grief and pain to manifest itself into a complete emotional wall - blocking out anyone and everyone - and justifying unforgivable acts. She then raced to the other side of the spectrum, finding herself unworthy of happiness and just trying to protect those around her from herself.

Picture
From 2.01: Time Will Tell
Picture
From 4.15: Instinct
If Jack Kenny sticks to the "it's not about romantic relationships" mantra and the primary characters walk off as just more fully-developed, better human beings, I'm a happy camper. Myka Bering deserves to be happy, not because she's with someone who makes her feel that way, but because she is choosing how she lives and going after what she wants. H.G. Wells deserves to actually believe that 1) she is allowed to be happy, in whatever form it takes; and 2) as Myka said in 4.15: Instinct, she is capable of being a very loving, positive force in other peoples' lives.

No matter what, I want good and consistent storytelling and it would be a great disservice to the characters of Myka Bering and H.G. Wells to analyze them only in relation to another character's presence in their lives. Yes, I will ship Bering and Wells until my last breath, but the characters and their journeys should never be eclipsed by their relationships. An open-ended farewell allows the Bering and Wells fandom to do what it does best and has always done: let the show live on in the extraordinarily rich universe of possibilities.
