Continued from Page 1 of Episode 3.11: Emily Lake
Pete and Myka wake up from their Tesla-induced nap and head back to the Warehouse to gameplan next steps. Similar to when she marched into the Warehouse demanding answers as to H.G.'s fate at the end of 2.09: Vendetta, Myka barges into the Warehouse this time, yelling, "What exactly did you do to H.G.?"
Artie: "Myka, it was the most humane option. After the near catastrophe in Yosemite...well, the Regents had to do something." Oh, you just had to bring that up, didn't you? (Also, Artie/Warehouse 13, it was Yellowstone, not Yosemite. Continuity here, folks.)
Jane Lattimer: "The punishment was unusual, but it wasn't cruel. We searched for something that would give H.G. a normal life while still allowing us to use her as a resource." Well, you're just begging for an angry Myka face there. Yup, you got it.

Jane Lattimer: "The punishment was unusual, but it wasn't cruel. We searched for something that would give H.G. a normal life while still allowing us to use her as a resource." Well, you're just begging for an angry Myka face there. Yup, you got it.
Lattimer directs Claudia to show a video of the Janus coin being used on H.G. to explain things more fully. The video cuts to a
stark room where H.G. awaits the Regents' sentencing post-2.12. Regent Kosan shows her the Janus coin, discussing its effects. A somber H.G. asks, "So, I'll lose all knowledge of the Warehouse...and everyone I've ever known?" When Regent Kosan answers in the affirmative, she resignedly places her hand out to begin the process, but pulls it back at the last moment, asking one last thing, "One request: may I keep my love of literature?" Oh God, my heart.
Regent Kosan assures her they will allow it and the Janus coin is placed in H.G.'s hand. The second the coin touches H.G.'s hand, a blast of golden light is emitted from it and an unexplained wind machine seems to be blowing in H.G.'s direction. |
In a super creepy way, Regent Kosan makes H.G. pull forth her biggest memories in an effort to start separating out her consciousness. He asks H.G. to remember her first day at Warehouse 12, and she smiles, talking about the first time she met her
teacher Caturanga. When Regent Kosan asks her again what her teacher's name was, H.G. falters: "I...I don't remember." It's heartbreaking to watch, but Regent Kosan just smiles and says, "Good." This is one of those times where you really do question the, at times, thin line between the "good guys" and the "bad guys."
Regent Kosan continues prompting H.G., "Think about your inventions, your experiments, your writings. Picture Kempo and weaponry, people, friends, lovers. Let the images come to you. Conjure them: your whole life and then let it go." When he's saying this, numerous images flash on the Janus coin, showing H.G.'s innermost thoughts. Christina appears; London appears; Wooly appears; 3.05 bad guy Crowley appears; and we get a glimpse of the grappler. Most notably, of course, we see Myka's face flash a number of times. I initially |
believed Myka's was the only face that appeared from H.G.'s post-Bronzing era, but I believe Pete's mug makes its way to the coin flashing right before Myka's, though appearing off-center. What's interesting is that while the Janus coin is looping through the same images over and over, it usually had an overarching image that changed as well, but more slowly, allowing most of the people/places/things that made it to the coin to have a spotlight at some point. Myka's face never received such treatment, making the sighting of her on the coin more hidden, as if the show wanted to show it to only those who went out of their way to seek it out. I love things like this.
What I don't love is how douchey Regent Kosan and the rest of the Warehouse higher-ups are about H.G.'s punishment. When a clueless Emily Lake awakens post-separation from H.G., Regent Kosan tells her, in the most creeptastic manner ever, that she was in an accident and he's going to help her get back her memory. Ick!
When we cut back to the Warehouse team watching the video, Myka stands silently in the background, disturbed. Artie and Jane Lattimer smugly brag about their brilliant idea of using the coin on H.G., oblivious to a clearly upset and saddened Myka.

Myka's reaction in this scene tells you everything you need to know about how she feels about H.G.
Soon, it is revealed that H.G.'s consciousness/Pokeball is being stored in a Regent vault nearby. After Myka implores Regent Lattimer to allow the team to try and get to H.G.'s prison orb before Sykes, for once, she agrees and Pete, Myka, and Claudia are
off to grab H.G. before the bad guys do.
They reach the Regent Vault before Team Evil and when Claudia releases H.G. from her sphere of loneliness, Myka looks at her like a child looks at Santa for the first time. Oh Myka. Pete reveals to H.G. what Emily Lake has been doing in her body and she is none too pleased. H.G., with more British disdain than I thought possible: "Living with a cat in Wyoming?" Pete, not helping things: "Also, you have an American accent annnnd a really girly scream." Not gonna lie, he's dead on. H.G.: "So, my body's out there teaching high school English?" Myka, adorably as always: "And your students love you..." Excuse me, Mykes. For some reason, you said "your students" instead of "I." Just come out already! |
When H.G. expresses her confusion as to why Walter Sykes wants her for his dastardly designs, the team is stumped and they head back to the Warehouse to catch up with Artie and Regent Lattimer.
